My name is Dottie and I have 10 children. The first 5 children did all their schooling in the public school system while the younger 5 have been completely homeschooled. The biggest difference in the 2 groups is the social aspect. My homeschooled children have done much better socially. They talk to anyone, regardless of age or gender. My eldest daughter who was in public schools had a very difficult time talking to adults until she was in her late 20's. My homeschooled 17 year old recently asked me to go to lunch with her and her friends from choir. She was the only one under 30 years of age, (other than one woman's son who joined us) and most of the ladies were around my age.
As far as academics, it's been about the same for both groups. My first homeschooled child is now in college and getting As and Bs. Other than a few spelling tests, the first test she ever took was her driving test (she missed 2) and then the ACT where she placed at average.
Another positive for the homeschooled group is there hasn't been any real rebellion with my younger teens so far. My public schooled kids were quite rebellious.
I could add that my homeschooled kids are much closer to the Lord at a much younger age, but that could be because I'm much closer to Jesus. Also, they aren't being taught from a humanistic mind set as the older children were.
I enjoy always having my children around all the time. I feel like I missed most of my older children's childhood. I still have several more years of schooling ahead of me, as my youngest is 5, and I'm looking forward to it.
